First Communion Paper Banner DIY

This weekend was a big weekend in our household. It was Garrett’s first communion. We are so proud of him and it was really beautiful to see him understand the beauty of taking Christ into your self. It used to be very common for boys to wear white suits but it is more common now to wear black or Navy. Since he is a lot like his Momma and doesn’t like to be a follower he went for a bow tie instead of a regular tie! Doesn’t he look so cute!

Poor kid, he’s so skinny we had to take in 4 inches on the waist of his pants and they were still loose! After mass we had a lunch for Garrett and his friend Ricky with both families. Hubby made his famous pulled pork and we had salads and chips. The tables were all decorated with hydrangeas from my garden that we put in these cute metal pots that were on only 99 cents each from Ikea!

I made a banner from scrapbook paper using these tools

It said Congratulations but you can’t see the letters very well from far away, I cut the triangles using my scalloped edge scissors, then I took a coordinating paper and punched out the flower. This was glued to the flag and then a letter was put into the middle.

Then I glued ric rac with a hot glue gun on the low heat setting and embellished with some flowers from the scrapbook section of my local craft store. For my first flag banner I think it turned out pretty cute!

The cake was lovingly made by Ricky’s Abuela (that’s Grandmother in Spanish), Rosie, and is my favorite Carrot cake ever! One day soon I will make it for you. The best part of this day is that it was not a big stress, it was lots of fun, it was laid back and we had the people closest to us around to celebrate. The biggest surprise for Garrett was his God Father, Rob, flying in from Texas just for this! It was truly a blessed event!
One of the best parts was getting to meet my new niece for the first time, Anna, she is so cute!
