Make Your Own Birdfeeder

by Kelley Wilson Filed Under: Crafts, Crafts and DIY, Kids Crafts, Parenting Leave a Comment

Spring is here in the south and this weekend we had soccer games for both boys. We also took some time after chores on Sunday to go to the local park and have some fun family time.Today our county schools were out so Matthews preschool was closed. We ran errands together and then sat down to make some bird feeders. I had been looking on Pinterest for bird feeders and there are some really inventive ones

Can bird feeders from Plum Adorable

Cherrio Bird Feeders from Happy Hooligans

Upcycled Bird Feeder from Embracing Life's Journey

Cookie Cutter Bird Feeders from Alpha Mom

We needed quick and easy so we made the ones I made when I was little. Matthew was a little peeved at me because we were not using bagels like they did at his school but once I showed him how, he dove right in.

Here is all you need:

  • Peanut Butter
  • Birdseed
  • ribbon
  • pinecones
First Tie the ribbon around the top of the pinecone

Next spread the peanut butter on the pine cone, make sure you put your peanut butter in a separate bowl so you are not dipping a dirty knife back in the jar.

Then just roll it around in the birdseed. I put mine in a cake pan to contain it and make it easy to roll around. BTW that fantastic plastic tray you see under all this containing the mess is from Ikea! They were like $1.50 each and so worth it for crafts (can you say play-dough) and eating.

Get it coated really well on all sides

and Voila! Matthew decided this was fun so we made 2 more.

2 for the front, one for the back of the house.
