I was provided a free Jenny Craig Weight Loss Starter Kit. However, the opinions expressed are entirely my own.”
Don’t hate me for saying this, but – the holidays are coming. I know, it scares me too. I see those posts on Facebook detailing the number of days until Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas and I cringe. The holidays are such a busy time and I don’t really want to face it. The going, the celebrating, the eating.
Sigh. I love the eating. As we get closer to those special days on the calendar I get a little stressed and then, of course, I eat. Even though I’ve lost a little over 20 lbs in the past year and a half, I still want to enjoy with everyone else and in order to do that I’m going to have to do something healthy for myself to lose a little more before all of the festivities begin. I’m not going to miss out on Thanksgiving dinner. I’m not.
Enter Jenny Craig. I’ve always wanted to try Jenny Craig but having tried other prepared meal diets where the food was not good I was so hesitant. You probably had the same thought about those prepped meal programs – expensive cardboard with a huge commitment, right? Nope!
Let’s face it – I’m busy and I have a husband and kids to take care of. I don’t have time to prep special meals for myself, especially right now so I was surprised and a little excited that Walmart now exclusively offers a Jenny Craig 3-day Starter Kit in the store’s diet and weight loss isle. Now I could try it and see if it would work for me! That’s right up my alley.
The 3-day Kit comes with three breakfasts, three lunches, and three dinners – along with snacks, anytime shakes and some chocolatey anytime bars to satisfy you when the cravings hit (and be real – they will). That’s 23 meals and snacks in all. You also get one free consultation at any Jenny Craig location or an anytime phone consultation, a weight loss guide, and a $50 food credit. Even after all of that, I still wasn’t convinced. Would the food really be good?
I started with the cranberry almond cereal and I have to tell you that I wouldn’t have known it wasn’t an expensive store brand chocked full of sugar. (Why does the family always go for that stuff? And why can’t I resist when they do?) So far, so good I thought. I can do this.
I also tried the chicken salad kit (yes, chicken salad…I didn’t think I’d be able to have something like that on a weight loss program!) and the cheese ravioli. It’s no secret I love pasta and this passed my test with flying colors which isn’t easy to do. The sauce was rich and full of flavor I loved it.
But really, the real test that sold me? The cheese curls. I love me some Cheetos. Giving those up would be a HUGE deal breaker for me. When I saw the cheese curls I looked at them skeptically. This could be it. But I’m a chick who likes to eat so it’s not like I was going to hold out too long. I tried one.
I’d embellish and tell you that the sky opened, angels sang, and all was right with the world, but that would just be silly. No. That didn’t happen. What happened was that I pounded back the bag of cheese curls like I normally would. 😉 I was sold. I could do this.
For those of you who might be concerned with things other than cheese curls, like say, nutrition, and healthy choices, I can tell you that it has all of that too! Jenny encourages healthy additions to their ready-made meals like salad, servings of fresh fruit and veggies and low-fat dairy options. They even include a shopping list so there’s no thinking to do – just enjoying. I love that. It really makes the program doable.
I might actually be able to lose a little more so I can pig out eat sensibly at Thanksgiving. 😉 So go to your local Walmart today and give it a try so you can enjoy the holidays too!
