I am honestly the worst at remembering family birthdays. It’s part ADHD and part laziness on my part. They creep up on me every year and I know I am not alone. I recently was asked to review an online family birthday calendar and I am so in love with it! No having to hang up a perpetual calendar or re-writing them in my new planner every year. Let me show you how!
EverMinder is an online personal reminder system that is FREE! It can be personalized to fit everyone’s needs and it’s unobtrusive which means you won’t be getting tons of pop up reminders or emails. In 2013 Ben Weiner created EverMinder to help keep everyone in his family connected and organized. Now family events are easier for everyone to remember. In short here is how it works.
I have gone through and set up the names for our entire family, Then I just click a date on the calendar and add them to it. You can pick groups or individuals for each date. You can see my dashboard here:
I even used it to invite all the grandparents to my son’s basketball game. There are a ton of uses. When you click on a date it brings up this window and you just fill it out BOOM! DONE! Now you have a family birthday calendar for everyone to use. I promise there is someone in your family tree that will thank you for this!
You can also manage your members by grouping them. I made one group for my family and one for my husbands, then I made an additional one just for grandparents.
Once you set your groups up, you will go in and schedule the reminders as a weekly summary, monthly and how far in advance you want the reminder to go out. If there is someone in your group that prefers not to get emails either unclick them or remove their email from there info. You’ll still get the reminder but they wont. Each family member can also access their own EverMinder profile page (without ever signing up or needing a password) to customize their reminder preferences based on when, how, and about whom they would like to
receive the reminders.
The best part for parents is being able to link up your kids wish list’s on Amazon so when a grandparent, aunt, or uncle asks what they want it’s right there in the reminder email. For anniversaries and other occasions there is a link to send flowers or e-cards. If you don’t want to seem pushy and have these in the email just don’t fill out that info and it won’t appear.
It’s so simple to do and I love that I only have to do it once and I’m finished FOREVER!
