The Easiest Way to Shred Chicken

I can’t wait to show you this trick! This is the easiest way to shred chicken and have it be consistent. The bonus is that you can keep your hands clean! I very often use shredded chicken in my recipes. I used to use 2 forks, one would hold the breast while the other pulled. This takes a long time when you are doing a lot.   Now I can shred 3 chicken breasts in 1 minute flat!

easy_way_to_shred_chickenRecently I was making our new favorite soup, Chicken Tortilla from the Pioneer Woman. I had some chicken ready to go, doesn’t it look yummy!
How to Shred Chicken in the mixer

Get out your stand mixer, I am a huge fan of Kitchenaid Mixers. Place your chicken breasts in the mixing bowl and put on the paddle attachment. Don’t put more than three chicken breast’s in the mixing bowl or it will FLY everywhere when it starts to shred, oh yes I did learn this the hard way.  Start off at a slow speed and increase the speed to medium. In a snap, you will have this perfectly shredded chicken!

You will not believe how simple this is. I will never EVER shred chicken with 2 forks again! Take a look at how fine the shred is, it would take forever to get that with 2 forks!

Now I am ready for some of my favorite soup!

  1. Do I have to use the balloon whisk attachment to be able to shred or will another attachment work?

Oh Goodness! Now I really need a big KitchenAid stand mixer....better go tell my hubby. :) This is so smart.
  7. Interesting idea.. I love doing mine with the crockpot! If you put the breasts with a little bit of liquid (I'll use chicken stock); after 4-5 hours on high, it's so simple to shred!

Brilliant! I really really want a stand mixer, but for right now I'm stuck making my husband shred chicken by hand whenever a recipe calls for it. :-) Thanks for sharing at The Fun In Functional!
