The 2017 Subaru Impreza was a total life saver for me recently. It made a long commute so enjoyable and fun in the Atlanta traffic that this momma totally got her groove back.
If you haven’t heard, a major part of Atlanta traffic came to a screeching halt when part of a main highway collapsed. Traffic has been re-routed making a typical 30-45 minute trip into an hour and a half. I was not looking forward to sitting in my 2004 SUV eating up gas in traffic, so I was thrilled when Subaru invited me to enjoy the Impreza for a week. I drove an entire week of my routine errands and three 60 mile trips and never used a full tank of gas. My SUV would have taken three tanks of gas for those trips.
The real impressive part is that the 2017 Subaru Impreza is just as long as my SUV, so there is plenty of leg room. At 5’9″ leg room is a must and our 13-year-old is almost by height so having leg room in the back seat one of the number one things we look for in a vehicle. The second is trunk space. I could fit as much in the trunk of this Impreza as I could in the back of my SUV, so there was no problem running multiple errands. The best thing is no more putting everything on the ground to open the trunk, just a click of the key ring and it opened like magic.
My very first car after high school was a Pontiac Fiero. When purchasing my first car, my father asked what I wanted in a car. In pure teen vanity, I answered, “It has to have pop up headlights, and I have to look good in it!” I loved driving with the top off and the stereo blaring my favorite 80’s tunes.
After becoming a mom, I graduated to a HUGE SUV which serves its purpose. I also began to bask in the wonderful silence of the car was when I was away from my kids. I realized I have become the boring suburban mom that no longer listens to music, drives a tank, and carpools all the time.
Getting into a fun and sporty 2017 Subaru Impreza changed all that. It was just like being a teenager again. The car has a powerful get up and go. It will let you whip around in traffic with ease. I drove with the sunroof open, the windows down and the amazing SeriusXM blasting 80’s tunes. I was living it up. I seriously felt alive again and was having a blast driving it. This mama totally got her groove back.
The sporty leather-wrapped steering wheel was tight and had controls for the radio and phone right at my fingertips.
My current car is a 2004 model, so it doesn’t have all the features that make this a luxury to drive. Like a rear camera. No more twisting and turning to make sure I don’t hit our mailbox on the way out of the driveway. It also has flashing lights in your side view mirrors to warn you someone is in your blind spot. The safety features are really impressive. In traffic it would even start to slow you down if it felt you were too close to the car in front of you to prevent a collision.
With just a download of the Subaru app, I plugged my phone in and was able to make and answer phone calls right from the dashboard. It made my commute in stop and go traffic much safer.
I have to say I was really sad when they came to take it back. I loved the fun free feeling and actually enjoyed driving again. It made me realize that even at 47 I can still be cool! While I might have to drive my Mom mobile a little longer you can bet when I get my next car this Subaru Impreza will be on the top of my list.
