Valentine Gift for Teachers – Candy Treat Jar

Do you remember to think of your teachers at Valentines? Sometimes I am so busy trying to do something cute for the kids friends that I forget and end up scrambling for something. What’s your favorite Valentine gift for teachers? This year I wanted to make a cute Valentine gift for the boys teachers.

Etched Glass Candy Jars for your kids to give to their teachers for Valentines

When I was doing another project I had received some etching cream from Martha Stewart Crafts and fell in love with it once I tried it.  I was at Ikea, with a friend, and found this great jar. I only bought 3 of them now I am wishing I had more.

Jars from Ikea, paint the lids, etch the glass and add candy kisses for a perfect teachers gift

I took the tops off and painted them with Krylon’s dual paint plus primer! Yea you heard me right paint and primer all in one can, that means save me time! I just put them out on an old sheet and sprayed a few light coats until they were covered.

Then I used the Martha Stewart Glass Etching Cream and her removable stencils and put hearts around the jars. If you wear rubber gloves you can pull the heart off right after you apply the cream and continue around the jar. When you put the stencil in a new place pat it down (don’t rub) with a paper towel so you don’t accidentally spread any cream remaining on the stencil onto other places on the jar you don’t want etched. Make sure you get the cream on thick and consistent across the stencil so it etches properly. {sorry this pic is a little blurry the hubbs was filling in as photographer on this one}

Use glass Etching Cream to make hearts on these Ikea treat jars. They make cute gifts for teachers when filled with candyIt’s really as easy as painting. Once the etching cream has dried for 15 to 20 minutes then put it under water and using a paper towel wash it off. Don’t freak when it’s wet if you don’t see much, it will appear as it dries.  Next I got out my ribbon, rafia, stamps and scrapbook paper to make some cute tags to tie to the tops.

Then just fill them with the candy of your choice! I used chocolate candy kisses. Now I just have to hide them to keep the kids from eating all the candy before Valentines! I hope you will try the etching cream it is really fun to use and there are all sorts of great projects you can make!

    These turned out so cute! I love that you spray painted the lids red...it adds the perfect pop of color!!
  3. As a teacher I love stuff like this! It's not over the top, it's something to snack on, and the jar would be great as a new candy jar in my room.
