We spend a lot of time in the summer at our neighborhood pool. I decided to make a pool snack bucket for them and their best friends to take to the pool every week. We always take a cooler, pool toys, and towels and it’s cumbersome for me and the boys. This makes it easy for them to carry their own snacks and towels into the pool. I decorated each bucket with these easy to use Sharpie Paint Markers.

I am dating myself, but do you remember in the 80’s when everyone made plastic cups with paint pens and did little circles with lines connecting to make their names? Well, my penmanship is not so great so I decided to make stencils with my Cricut die cut machine. I cut them on paper and taped them to the outside of the bucket. I tried vinyl but the paper actually worked better.
These paint pens are really easy to use you just shake them up and then press down on a piece of scrap paper to get the paint flowing.
Next, I painted inside the stencil. I found using a back and forth motion made a cool chalkboard look to the letters instead of filling them all in solid. You, of course, can design them any way you want that is part of the fun.
These markers come in 2 formulas and you want to make sure you get the right one! I did not at first and had to go back to Micheal’s and get the right kind. (Who doesn’t like an excuse to go back to Micheal’s!) Here is the breakdown on the 2 formulas so you make sure to buy the right one on your first trip!
- Water based markers – Good for paper projects like scrapbooking, they are archival safe, acid-free and opaque so there is no need to worry about them hurting your precious pics! They will also stay true to color on dark papers
- Oil Based Markers – These are good for projects like mine on plastic, metal, rubber, glass, stone and many other mediums
I let the paint dry just a few minutes and took the stencil off. I did free hand pool snacks on the shovels attached to the buckets.
Each bucket included snacks and a water bottle to keep the kids hydrated. These buckets will be perfect for the pool, to take to the beach or to use as a party favor for a water themed party! If you want to save on these markers just download Micheal’s app or go to their website and print a coupon.
The kids loved their snack buckets and they can fill them with their favorite treats when we head to the pool. It also makes a fun toy so it’s a win-win!
