How to Make Crayon Lipstick {A fun kids craft}

by Kelley Wilson Filed Under: Crafts, Crafts and DIY, Holiday, Kids Crafts, Parenting, Valentines 2 Comments

Have you ever wanted to know how to make crayon lipstick?  It's fun for kids and you can make it in all sorts of colors. I know it sounds crazy but hang with me for a minute. Lip balms are basically wax and oil, crayons are wax and are non-toxic so you've got your wax and any color you can dream of ready to go. I love this kid craft because it's a great way to use all those leftover crayon bits in your box. You can use one color or mix them to create a color all your own.

Ever wonder how to make crayon lipstick? Use those leftover bits in your crayon box and customize your own lipstick shade. It's fun for kids, easy and safe.The items you will need to make crayon lipstick:

  • one small plastic or glass dish
  • 1 small round travel container with lid
  • 2 crayons in the same color of your choice or 2 different colors
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
  • a microwave

How to make crayon lipstick:

Peel all of the paper off of your crayons and break them in half. Place them in your bowl and add the coconut oil.Ever wonder how to make crayon lipstick? Microwave at your regular temperature setting for 1 minute and stir, repeating this step until your crayons are fully melted. Pour into your container and let sit for about 15-20 minutes or place in the fridge to harden fast. Ever wonder how to make crayon lipstick? If you put them in the fridge you may see a white film on the top but don't worry there is nothing wrong once the heat of your finger hits it that will go away. This lipstick is more like a balm so if you want it a little glossier add another 1/4 teaspoon of coconut oil before you microwave it. Here are my friend Sarah's lips before and they were a little dry…

and here they are after, she used the darker color by the way so you can see this is sheer, not dark and heavy.

Make your own lip balm with crayons and one other ingredient!

Now that you know how to make crayon lipstick it's so easy and fun!

I am just wondering what green, blue, and black would look like! Perfect for Halloween maybe? One of the fun things about this craft is that it's so inexpensive you can really afford to experiment with it. It would make great gifts or you could attach them to little cards that say “You're the Balm” for Valentines!

    Oh my goodness, my girls do this all the time! It's a great way to use up broken crayons (hate wasting those!). When I try to use them, though, they don't have a great feel and sort of dry out my lips worse. Strange, but I can't use coconut oil alone as a moisturizer. It literally makes my legs ashy. I do think adding a tiny bit of beeswax would work though, as the previous commenter mentioned.

    Very cute for a kid's craft, but I admit I like my recipe with beeswax better for myself ;)
