Slow cooker apple pie filling can be used to make all kinds of yummy treats, like fried pies, apple pie cookies, and of course on top of ice cream! It is easy to make right in your Crock Pot, without any babysitting it while it cooks. You will love this slow cooker apple pie filling recipe for years to come!
Make homemade slow cooker apple pie filling in your crockpot for all kinds of yummy treats, I use them in fried pies, apple pie cookies and of course on top of ice cream!Fall is the perfect time for apples. To me, they are a sign that it is time to think about family, football, and Thanksgiving. There is a crispness in the air and that sweet and slightly tangy taste of an apple just makes me excited. Of course, at my age, it might also be that I'm just glad it will be cooler outside! (wink wink)
Seriously though they bring back the sweetest memories of my grandmother and I baking up her famous fried apple pies in her small kitchen with the avocado-colored stove in Alabama. Recently my friends went apple picking in north Georgia and brought me back a peck of apples. In case your wondering a peck is 10-12 lbs of apples which equals about 30 medium sized apples. I knew I wanted to make Apple Pie Filling and decided to try it in my slow cooker.Make homemade slow cooker apple pie filling in your crockpot for all kinds of yummy treats, I use them in fried pies, apple pie cookies and of course on top of ice cream!
It cooked perfectly! The apples were chunky and soft but still firm not mushy. This recipe has just the right amount of cinnamon and spices so it's not overwhelming that yummy apple flavor. When making apple pie filling you want to make sure you buy the right kind of apples for baking, you can click this link from the Farmers Almanac to find a list.

One important thing to note with this slow cooker apple pie filling is that it's not made to be put in a traditional pie crust and then baked for that you want to use uncooked apples.
