Last week I finally got to work on Garrett's Bedroom, we are officially going to BIG BIG boy room. His nursury had an airplane theme because both Grandpa's were in the aeronautics industry. Then he was a huge horse fan so we went to a cowboy room. When he was told me he didn't want that anymore I took everything down and covered the holes with Starwars wall clings till I was ready to redo the entire thing. So here is the before with the shelf taken down that was around the top of the room.
Yes he takes after his Dad and is a slob but this was also after we had started taking stuff out of the room. So I will soon reveal the entire room but for now here is how I customized his ceiling fan.
First you take the blades down and take the hardware off. I used the opposite side in case I wanted to use the white side again later. This was good in theory because when I was done there were all kinds of paint stains on the back, Oh well best laid plans. First I sanded the paddles using a fine grit.
Next using Valspar Paint with Primer I painted the paddles with my paint roller, 2 coats. Once it was dry (I waited a day) I measured out and taped for the red lines. Be very careful because it can get confusing.
After I did one panel I went down and marked x's on the part I needed to paint so I didn't paint the wrong spot. I lined up the other paddles along side and taped the rest up really fast.
Pretty red stripes. I did 2 coats on this as well using a paint brush.
Immediately pull the tape off, do not wait for it to dry. Then repeat the process for any other colors you want to use. I used Scotch blue with edge lock and had a few touch-ups I had to do with a small paint brush and a steady hand. Here is the close up of a finished paddle.
Here is how cool it looks when it is on!
This was easy and really added a lot to tie the room together.
