Split Pea Wreath Pin

My sister gave me one of these a few years ago and I really love to wear it during the holidays. I was so sad when it broke so called her for the recipe. I am making a few of them since they are next to NOTHING to make and give them as gifts. Perfect for the preschool teacher in your life!

So the items you will need for this craft are:

1 Package Split Peas (this will make about 14-15 depending on the size you make your circles)
1 tube of school glue any will do as long as it dries clear, I prefer Elmers
Ribbon
Pin Backs
Red Nail Polish
Glue Gun
Wax Paper
Old Tupperware container
Plastic Spoon
Cookie Sheet

First you will want to put wax paper on your cookie sheet.

Take your glue and put it in the peas. Stir it till all the peas are coated in the glue, not swimming, but coated.

Put a spoonful on your wax paper and using your hands make them into the shape of a wreath. Don't try to be perfect (I know it's hard!) Any stragglers you can pop off after they dry.

Look at all those pretty peas! I love the color of these and the variance in the color is one of the things that makes them look so real.

Let them dry for about 4 hours. They may still be a little sticky on the bottom but you can go ahead and do the next 2 steps at this point.

Get out that bottle of Red nail polish that just was not quite your color and put it to good use painting some of the peas to look like cranberries (don't worry you can cover up a boo boo with a bow)

Get out your hot glue gun and put a dot of glue on the back of the ribbon and stick it where you want it.

You can position the ribbon at the bottom of the wreath or at the top depending on the way you like it.

Once they are fully dry and you may need to turn them over to let the back dry some you can hot glue your pin back on. That is it! They will be a little rubbery not hard as a rock by the way.

  5. What an adorable idea. I am going to make them to use "candle rings" for a pair of candlesticks I have on my kitchen island. With the peas, it's the perfect festive touch in my kitchen. Love it! Thanks for the inspiration! I'd love to have you stop by and share this one with my readers this Wednesday on my Wicked Good Wednesday Blog Party at www.wildernesswife.com
