As a mom with ADHD parenting a kid with ADHD life is a challenge. When it comes to Christmas I always try to put a few gift in that are fun but that will help with our issues. I wanted to share a few of the ones that we have found to be great!
Hog Wild Zoo Sticks Party Set(Pack of 8)
are fantastic for fine motor skills. Serve them with some Mac & Cheese and they will get lots of work! Every kids loves these whether they have fine motor skill issues or not!
Melissa & Doug Shut-the-Box
is a great game to practice math skills. Many kids with ADHD have problems with Math. You roll the die and then try to turn down numbers to equal the dice total making you have to think about different combos to make up numbers. It's a really fun, fast (so they don't have to pay attention long) and retro game.
Variflex 38-Inch Mini Band Trampoline
is great for getting the wiggles out. When your kid is bouncing off the walls then just put them on this and let them bounce away!
Pop-Arty Beads are great fun especially for girls to make bracelets and necklaces but they are wonderful to work on strengthening your hands and fine motor skills.
Jefferies Socks Girls 2-6X Sport Quarter Half Cushion 6 Pair Pack Socks, White/Pink, 6-7.5
These are seamless socks. You know for those kids that scream when you put there socks on because they bother there feet and are uncomfortable, these are for you!
WatchMinder 2 Silent Alarm & Reminder Watch System
is a wonderful watch that will send reminders for everything from taking your meds to paying attention. You cannot go wrong with this watch for a ADHD'er! The best thing is that it vibrates so that no one else has to know what is going on.
CHEW STIXX PENCIL TOPPERS
look like a strange eraser but are actually made to chew on. Have a kid that chews pen tops or pencils? These are great for providing sensory relief and are not noticeable to other kids.
Rory's Story Cubes
are great for kids who have trouble processing to write a story. It is easy and helps prompt them to the process of writing a story from beginning to end.
Sometimes you just need a warm hug and Cozy Plush Buddy the Monkey Microwavable Soft Toy is great. It has Lavender which is calming and promotes sleep.
Purple Water Pearls
or Orbeez are so soothing to play with. You can play with them on a light table or in the tub and they are so much fun. Dip you feet in them and feel the tension melt away as you laugh and squish.
Clue The Classic Edition
is a great game to problem solve and stay organized which are 2 skills that are hard for ADHD'ers
Last but not least is the chore chart here is a great one to try Melissa & Doug Deluxe Magnetic Responsibility Chart.
I hope you find something fun from here to help the kids in your life and please I would love for you to share any things you have found to be good for your ADHD or Sensory Kid.

Melissa & Doug Shut-the-Box
Champion Sports Standard Scooter Board with Handles
this is so fun to crawl around the house on your belly. Kids can crawl around and pick stuff up or chase the dog on it. Garrett put a string on one of the handles and pulls his brother around on it.
Wok and Roll
is a great game for small motor skills you have to chase these little pieces of food around a wok that is jiggling around and you have to use chop sticks. It's tons of fun!
Jefferies Socks Girls 2-6X Sport Quarter Half Cushion 6 Pair Pack Socks, White/Pink, 6-7.5
WatchMinder 2 Silent Alarm & Reminder Watch System
Have a kid that has a problem with getting up, try this Natural Light Alarm Clock
it will come on in time to make them feel like they are naturally waking up.

What an awesome post! So helpful - thanks so much for taking time to share.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteThis is great. Thank you. My niece was recently diagnosed with SPD and I've been wanting to get her something that she'd enjoy. Any ideas for an almost 2 year old?
ReplyDeleteYes puzzles with knobs, shape sorters, spray bottles with colored paint in them, bingo markers (these make dots on bingo cards but are fun to play with) the triangle shaped crayons. If she has noise issues a cute pair of fun earmuffs. An easel, writing on a vertical surface will help with arm strength therefor fine motor control.
DeleteShe is lucky she was diagnosed early things will be much better for her once she reaches school age!
The Shut the Box math game looks like a fun way to learn math. Fun + educational is the way to go!

It is really an old game but I am finding that many of the things we played with as kids are the best things for kids like this. We have gotten away from all of the things that promote fine and gross motor control.
DeleteThis is a great round-up of ideas. Thanks for posting this. Those Hog Wild Sticks look like so much fun!
ReplyDeleteThey are! Every kid that comes to my house wants to use them
DeleteThanks for sharing these great ideas!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this list!! I have three kids that have SID and ADHD. These all look like fun. Especially the Wok and Roll game!
