Carve a Yoda Pumpkin

Pin It Now!
This past week Garrett's School had there annual Fall Festival. Our Home and School committee (that's what we call PTO for some reason) does a fantastic job with this every year. They always hold a pumpkin contest and here is Garrett's entry. OK so we didn't really carve the pumpkin as much as we molded it!

We had a lot of fun putting him together. We broke off bamboo skewers and hammered the items we used in with a rubber mallet. We used a gourd for the ears, tomatillos cut in half for the eyeballs, cantaloupe skin for the lids. We cut a lemon for the nose and a chayote squash for the mouth. We set him up on a plastic pot and wrapped some burlap and a leather tie around the waist to make it look like his clothes.

This year H&S is lucky to be lead by a person who I have come to know and look up to this past year named Cheryl. She is the bomb and is always there for me when I need a laugh! She is gonna kill me if she know's I put a pic up of her but I guess we will see if she is a loyal reader or not Ha Ha! She has just lost 19 lbs recently and is trying to cheer me on.

Garrett won 2nd place in the 3rd grade for his pumpkin. I could not believe how creative they were, here are some of my faves from the class winners.

I forgot my camera that day and just snapped some pics with my iPhone but did not do such a great job so here are the ones that did come out. they have about 10-12 game booths and this was my fave, a life size operation board made from wood. It was amazing! They also had Bat Man tic-tac-toe that was played like toss across. (you may have to be older to remember that game)

All the parent volunteers dress up and some of the teachers participate. This is our guidance counselor who dressed up as a one direction super fan. It was hysterical and some of the kids were begging her for her cape.

This is my buddy Mary Katherine. she was a cute little farm girl! This was for a haystack dig game where something small was hidden in a pile of hay and 2-3 kids at a time would try to compete to find it. When the winner found the item they would ring a cowbell.

I love fall it is so full of fun things to do, I can't wait to go to the pumpkin patch! What does your family do every year to celebrate fall?
