So this week in Atlanta we have had our hottest days ever on record 112 degrees. My poor A/C is working overtime, last night our thermostat was set on 72 and the inside temp was 85. What better way to combat the heat then a little water fun! Last year I bought a water balloon pump this has been one of my best purchases ever.
Matthew has played with it everyday! You fill the bottle with water and then pump the handle to create pressure, squeeze the trigger and it pumps it right into the balloon, no more dragging the hose around or standing at the spigot to fill them. So here is our first round, they remind me of a bowl of Easter eggs.

OK Mattie's poised and ready to go, let's call big brother out to the back porch!
Surprise Garrett it's fight time!
Mattie didn't land a lot but here is one he did, Garrett had no idea he had balloon hanging off his head.
One of our other favorite past times has been bubbles. This was Matthews lovely way of using Crayola's colored bubbles.....boys!
The most recent thing we tried was this water mattress, I found the idea from Go Kid Yourself, linked up on my Summer Bucket List Link Party. So here are the players:
A THICK Drop Cloth
Duct Tape
Glitter
Plastic Bugs
First I folded over the drop cloth and duct taped the 3 sides leaving a small opening for the hose. I did not want to put mine on the grass figuring maybe I would get lucky and it would last more than a day (NOT!) This area at the side of my house has a little incline but I thought it would be OK (NOT AGAIN!).......I'll explain more in a minute.
Next I threw in all the glitter and the bugs Put my hose in the small opening I had left there and went to filling. Now...have you ever gotten into one of these things that you thought would be great for the kids and so easy to do just duct tape and a drop cloth right? Wrong, 1/2 way through filling this thing up I was thinking why the hell did I ever think this was going to be a good idea. First let me say I could not get the sprayer off the hose to just let the hose sit in there so I sat there holding it......for 2 freaking hours.....apparently not knowing that it was 111 degrees outside! Yea call me stupid, but I had promised the boys and was already committed. After about 2 hours I finally saw this little V shaped think on the hose that locks it down so I didn't have to hold it! Just call me genius.
I did have a few leaks and was able to get most of them with the duct tape, once I was done the boys came out and here they are looking for the hidden bugs. You will notice that due to the incline it was rolling a little and I actually had to use more water to fill it up because of the incline. Never was to good at physics.
I sprayed the boys so they could slide on it and then they of course wanted to spray each other.
They really did have fun with it.
ahhhhhhh nothing like cold water on a hot day. Chalk this up to one of those "trying to be the cool mom" moments that was a sorta fail, not epic. Hubby say's it's in no way a fail but he just doesn't understand how anal I am sometimes. Of course by the time the kids slid, jumped and rolled around it was toast within 3 hours and flat as a board, good news all that water drained down and watered my lawn.
What kind of water fun are you having this summer?

DeleteThis looks like a grande ole time! I love the mattress idea. I've never seen that before...and colored bubbles?! I sure wish they'd made those when I was a kid. Thanks for sharing. Found your blog from the Cheerios and Lattes linky.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting I hope you come back. It really was fun, just more water than I thought! The colored bubbles are pretty cool and they wash out really well, just wish I could figure out the recipe
Deleteloved it....so gonna go find me a "bust", that is its new name here. soon as i find a big enough tarp we are so doing this. Oh but without the bugs we will find crowns and pink glitter.
ReplyDeleteYes I would have loved the crowns and pink glitter, God gave me 2 boys which is a total joke on his park...I used to own a bridal shop really and I have no girls!
DeleteMy boys would love this and I TOTALLY need a water balloon pump! Thanks so much for sharing your summer fun at the {what's shakin' link party}!!

This looks like so much fun. We're having a wet summer here in the UK with storms and flooding and all sorts so I'm having to have my summer vicariously. :o) Actually today it's sunny but barely scraping the 80's for temperature. We're not gonna achieve half the stuff on our bucket list at this rate.
